Belle Isle Detroit is the jewel of all the Detroit parks

So much history with Belle Isle

You can also get some great views of Canada and Lake St. Clair. It's perfect for a hot summer day because there is always a breeze coming off the water and you can always find a spot on the island to relax and chill. It's a nice little oasis in the middle of the city. There is a bridge that connects Belle Isle with the city. You can drive across the bridge to the island, or you can even ride your bike or walk. Speaking of biking and walking, Belle Isle is a great place to do either of these. Early in the morning you will find many joggers, bikers and roller bladers. Paths are marked along the roads on the island.

There was also an aquarium on the island (the oldest one in the country) but it has unfortunately closed. Efforts are being made to reopen it though and I hope it does. fishing is also very popular on the island. You will find many great places to fish around the island.

During the summer you can also enjoy the waterslide or head to the beach. The beach is also the perfect place to get a view of the city skyline. One thing I like to do many time in the summer is to drive to the island, park my car and listen to some sports radio. It's so relazing for me.

It can be a nice change of pace from some other things to do in the city like heading to a game at Comerica Park or a show at the Fox Theatre.

For the golfer in you, there is a driving range which in my opinion is the best facility to practice your golf game in the immediate city limits. There are courses in the city like Chandler Park and Rouge Park, but their facilities don't comapare to Belle Isle's. Of course you have the driving range with many stations, but you also have several putting greens which range from flat to hilly to test every kind of putt you can imagine.

There are also sand traps to practice you sand game, and there's even a short par 3 course which will test your short iron and putting game. The driving range is a nice facility. There are plenty of stations for you to hit at. There is also a short 6 hole course to work on your short game.

You will also find putting greens and chipping areas. In my opinion, it is the best driving range facility in the city.

I also think that one of the best things you can do is just ride around the island or just park and look at the scenic view. Going to Belle Isle Detroit is a very popular date idea ;).

Another secret I like to point out is that Belle Isle Detroit is the perfect place for you star gazers out there.

What's great about it is that it's close to the city, yet there are many places on the island where it is dimly lit, so you can see many stars with the naked eye or with a telescope.

I wouldn't say it's as good as going out to the country, but it's pretty good for people who don't want to travel far from the city. Of course many things on Belle Isle Detroit are only doable in the spring and summer time, but during the winter time, the cold shouldn't stop you from going to check the island out or take some pictures if it snows. Feeding the deer that live on the island is also a popular thing to during the winter. All these thing and more make it a good reason to make it apart of your travel plans. Also once you leave, why not drive 5 minutes down the road on Jefferson to Pewabic Pottery or to Chene Park? That would be a great plan for a day.
