The Westin Book Cadillac Hotel The Book Cadillac Hotel is one of the finest hotels in Detroit. Find info about parking, restaurants, and more. It was left sitting abandoned for over 20 years until
these past two years when restoration of the hotel began and ultimately completed in October of 2008. The hotel (now called the Westin Book Cadillac Hotel) may not look exactly like the classic hotel from its heyday in the 1920s (the inside at least) but I can confidently say that this hotel has been restored to its former glory and I expect it to be one of the most popular hotels in the city. The first thing you will notice about the hotel is its architecture. I would put the hotel in the class of some of the best architecture in Detroit with its classic Neo Renaissance and Italian style design. On the outside you will see detailed columns and sculptures along with the copper roofing on the top (which was green after years of being exposed to the elements). It is a building that truly stands out from the rest of the hotels in downtown Detroit. On the inside, they did a great job restoring much of it to it's original state (of major note are the Grand Ballroom and the Italian Gardens), the only difference is that the rooms, lobby, etc have been modernized to be in line with the 21st century. The original hotel rooms were smaller but now they are much more spacious with comfortable beds, flat screen tvs, and spacious bathrooms. Suites are also available for you reserve. Along with the hotel, the upper floors of the Book Cadillac Hotel have been made into condos which all except one have been sold. These condos provide great views of the city from all angles (espcially of the Detroit River and Ambassador Bridge). The condos are very expensive running in the 6 and 7 figure range. During the restoration of the hotel, I was able to take a tour of the hotel and it was a great experience and I truly enjoyed it. I was able to go into the hotel rooms and one of the condos as well as see the process that was going on to make the hotel great like it once was. I expect great things for the Westin chain with the Book and even in the touhg economy, I feel that this is just the first of many rehabs of historic structures in Detroit. If you're looking for a place to stay while in town, this would be a top place to reserve a room. It is not on the expensive side and is very affordable. Check out the Motor Bar as well even if you don't decide to stay at the hotel. It is also near great places like Campus Martius, the Detroit Music Hall and American Coney Island. You also still in close proximity to nightlife, Detroit Bars and popular places like the Detroit Zoo and the Hockeytown Cafe.
