The Charles Wright Museum of African American History
I love the location as it is right in the cultural district not far from downtown Detroit, along with the Detroit Institute of Arts and many others. Again, it makes it all the more enticing to walk through the area :) The museum that you see in place now is a big step upwards from the museum they had about ten years ago. Even though the new place is only about ten years old, the much added space allowed for newer and more permanent exhibits to be in place for everyone to come back to. I was very pleased when I first came to the new museum when I was a little younger. I am still pleased to this day as I go there from time to time. The Charles H. Wright Museum is not small by any means and you can't just run through the museum in a quick blur. You have to truly take a minute and take in the exhibits and art work. One of my favorite exhibits that I always go see, is the "Still We Rise" Exhibit. It is a permanent exhibit and it is one of the popular exhibits and the museum calls it their central exhibits in the museum. It shows the beginning and following stages of civilazations in early Africa. It then goes on to show the history of African Americans throughout the slave trade, all the way up to present day accomplishments by African Americans. They are always changing exhibits throughout the month so check their official site for current updates on what's going on. Return from Charles Wright Museum to Detroit Museums
