Cobo Hall DetroitCobo Hall Detroit is where many of Detroit's premier indoor events and conventions are held. It wouldn't surprise me if you reading this site right now is a result of you being in town for a convention, or you are currently preparing to go to one in the city. For one, Cobo Hall is near many hotels in the downtown Detroit area. It is becoming more and more attracting to have conventions at Cobo now especially since there has been a recent increase in the number of hotel rooms downtown. Detroit has about two to three times more hotel rooms than it did about 10 years ago, and that number is continuing to grow. Cobo Hall has a lot of space for events but because of the rising number of hotel rooms and Detroit's renewed growth in the downtown area, there have been talks of plans to expand, but nothing concrete as of yet. I would have to say the most prominent event that is held at Cobo Hall is the North American International Auto Show. It's the largest auto show of its kind in North America (it's the MotorCity afterall, right?) and it is one event that I look forward to going to every year and it's a perfect remedy for the winter blues. Other events at Cobo Hall Detroit include the yearly Detroit Boat Show, as well as job fairs, business expos, and events for the local schools. I like where Cobo center is positioned on the Detroit River because you can get great views from many of the ballrooms inside and the lower level also provides easy access to the Detroit Riverwalk. If you're in Detroit for a convention or large event, make sure you know where your hotel is in proximity to the center. I say this because you could save tons of money on parking and save yourself some long walking (unless you enjoy it) to get there. Many of the hotels downtown are close to the Detroit People Mover which makes stops at Cobo. By taking the People Mover, you not only don't have to worry about parking or walking, you can see some good views of the city and once you leave, you can get dropped off right by your hotel. Also inside Cobo Hall, you'll find a few mom and pop restaurants and stores inside. Also don't get Cobo Hall confused with Cobo Arena which is right next door. Cobo Arena is exactly what it says...an arena.
