The Dequindre Cut
Info on the new Dequindre cut connecting the Detroit Riverfront and Eastern Market. Enjoy biking, running, and walking throughout this unique addition to Detroit. The Riverwalk has been a huge hit with many people, and the hope is the same here as well. The whole project is still not complete, but the majority of it is. The pathway allows you to walk, run, and ride your bike through a few Detroit neighborhoods, all the way down to the Detroit Riverfront. It can make for a great workout or recreational activity as it is quite long. You could also combine the paths on the Cut and the Riverwalk to make for an even longer workout or leisure activity. When finished, it will link the Riverfront (Riverwalk, state park, etc) with Eastern Market. It will be quite a nice ride when it's all set and done. The unique thing about the path is that it is built where a former rail line was, and it is sunken beneath street level. There is quite a bit of graffitti which was left there when the cut was made, in order to give it some character. Security cameras and adequate lighting do exist so do not worry about safety. Just remember to keep your eyes open just as you would anywhere else. Return from The Dequindre Cut to Outdoor Recreation Return to Detroit Travel Guide Homepage
