All about the Detroit ZooThe Detroit Zoo is one of the best in the country and it's always a great place to visit especially during the warm months. I've been here many times while living in Detroit, and I've always had a great time from when I was little and came to the zoo on field trips to even now as I'm older when I would take my nephew there. The zoo is not directly in the city limits, but it's only two miles north of the city limits and if you take a straight shot up north on Woodward, you can't miss it. Just like all the other major zoos in the country, you can find your Lions, Tigers, and bears...I'm not saying the joke :) But you can also find unique exhibits like the Butterfly Garden. The Butterfly Garden has all types of butterflies and the best part is that they are not behind some glass, you can actually walk among them and have them land on you. Now I'm being serious here, some people are scared of bugs (and butterflies are insects), and will not take to kindly to having them land on their shoulder or elsewhere on their body, so make sure that the group you're with is cool with butterflies. I've seen people freak out over having them land on them...really. This is also a great place to go during the winter however and besides butterflies, hummingbirds will fly among you as well. Another one of my favorite places to go is the Polar Bear exhibit called the Arctic Ring of Life. The best part of this exhibit is the underwater tunnel in which you can see the polar bears go about their daily activities. The whole exhibit also has other arctic animals such as the Arctic Fox and seals (and don't worry, the seals are separated from the Polar Bears) Along with the exhibits, you have food places all around the park and you can even take a ride on the train that goes throughout portions of the zoo. It really is a fun place to go not only for the kids, but adults as well. Check out the Detroit Zoo's official website here for more information on tickets and hours.
