I think a guide is definitely necessary for people in town for a visit because they are new and to me, looking at a broad restaurant guide online doesn't give a personal feel. It's basically just a restaurant directory. I'm here to give you info ahead of time so you can get a feel of what to expect when you hear about these places or are looking for a nice restaurant to eat at. Here are my favorite and top restaurants to eat at in "The D":

  • Detroit's Breakfast House and Grill - A great breakfast, lunch, and brunch place to eat at in Detroit. It's part of the new Merchant's Row development going on downtown and is fast becoming a popular spot to eat at in Detroit.

  • Jacoby's - One of Detroit's oldest and well known German restaurants. Located in downtown Detroit, you've gotta stop by and check it out.

  • Fishbones Greektown - One of Detroit's premier seafood places since 1989. Great food, great entertainment and located in the heart of Greektown . You don't want to pass this place up.

  • Taqueria Mi Pueblo - If you've got that craving for some authentic mexican food, look no further than here. Check out the review by another fellow Detroiter.

  • Southern Fires - A great soul food restaurant. Good atmosphere and it's in a unique location.

  • Lucky Dragon Cafe - A nice little chinese food spot near downtown Detroit. It's a hidden gem in my opinion. If you're in the mood for chinese, try this place.

  • Astoria Pastry Shop - An excellent pastry shop in the heart of Greektown Detroit. They have over 100 pastry deserts for you to chose from. Yummy indeed :)

  • Milano Bakery - A nice bakery that is very popular among people in the city. Deserts, pizza, and deli sandwiches are here for your tasting.

  • Happy Cream Ice Cream and Deli - A nice ice cream and deli place right in the heart of downtown Detroit.

  • Seldom Blues Detroit - A great place with great food and live jazz music.

  • The Whitney Detroit - One of the best upscale restaurants to dine at in the city.

Much more

Of course there are plenty more Detroit restaurants for you to chose from. American, Chinese, Thai, Greek, Italian, there is so much to chose from. But once again I'm just sharing with you my personal experiences (good ones) on places you should check out when you're hungry. For a more complete list of restaurants in the area, check out the these.
