The Detroit River provides great views and many activities

Belle Isle Conservatory

I'm a water person. I just love being around the water. Detroit is unique in its position that it has the river bordering it just to the south. You can get an excellent view of the downtown Detroit skyline from Belle Isle or across the river in Canada. In the past Detroit didn't take advantage of the beautiful riverfront it had but now the riverfront is shaping up to be a true gem in the city. First I must say that if you stay in the Detroit Marriott Renaissance hotel, please try to get a riverfront room. The view is spectacular.

The Detroit River Walk

Of course my absolute favorite thing about having the river so close is that I can come by and walk down the Riverwalk. This is one of my favorite things to do in the summer time. You get plenty of time to reflect and think about things and you've got a great view while you're doing it. They are currently extending the riverwalk even further so it will be a great addition to the city of Detroit. Click here for more info on the Detroit River Walk.

Belle Isle Detroit

Belle Isle sits right in the middle of the river. I mean how many people can say that their city has a beautiful island that they can go to at anytime right in their city?? Not very many ;). There is a lot to do on this little island. Fishing, biking, rollerblading, running, golfing, swimming, etc. Click here for more info on Belle Isle.

River Cruises

The cruises on the river can be a great way to enjoy the scenery as well as relax and perhaps eat some food as you do so. Click here for more info on the river cruises.

Detroit River Days

The first Annual Summer Days was held this year and activities were held all along the riverfront. Food, vendors, games, and carnival rides lined the new riverwalk. I truly enjoyed myself this past summer when I went. Of course next year I hope it isn't so hot, but the breeze off the river was very nice. In the next 5-10 years, expect the Riverfront to continue to develop and it will look even better than it does now. More residential development has started so if you're looking to move to the area, definitely check for a place near the river.
