Hart Plaza Detroit is the place for festivals and concerts Hart Plaza Detroit, not far from Cobo Hall, is one of the favorite gathering spots for people in the area to come to.
It serves as the prime location for many of the festivals that are in town every summer. It's no wonder why. There is ample space in the plaza, and it is situated right at the foot of the Detroit River, which provides great views at the festivals. I remember coming here as a kid many times to the different music and cultural festivals and I still love going the them to this day. The festivals are always great because you can shop, eat, and listen to music all in the same place.
You can literally spend a whole day in Detroit at Hart Plaza during one of the festivals with some good entertainment.
Hart Plaza is also the perfect place to watch the Marshall Field's fireworks that happen every summer on the riverfront. If you do chose to come down to the plaza for the Fireworks, make sure you get there early...and I mean EARLY. It is the best spot to watch them (the fireworks will go off right in front of you).
So besides cultural and musical festivals, what other notable features should you look for? Well for one, you can't miss the Dodge Fountain. I guess you could call it the main centerpiece of the plaza and if you bring your kids, it's a great way to cool off in the hot summer sun. Next you will want to check out the Gateway to Freedom sculpture by Ed Dwight. It is truly a wonderful work of art and of course, you end up learning a little bit of history about the city during the Civil War era.
The plaza also meets up directly with the Detroit Riverwalk, so once you're done walking around, or you just need to take a nice stroll down the river during one of the festivals, it's perfect.
Detroit River Cruises also have their docks located not too far from the plaza. Also after one of the events, why not take a trip to Greektown and check out Astoria Pastry Shop for some dessert? A great way to cap off a great day or evening.
You can also get great views of Belle Isle. This is one of the best Detroit Attractions you can visit in the summertime.
NOTE: Hart Plaza is also close to the Detroit People Mover (Renaissance Center Station) Remaining Summer Events Here are the remaining Hart Plaza Festivals summer events in Detroit that are scheduled to take place at Hart Plaza.
