Detroit has a bad reputation because of Crime. But many people don't realize how beautiful Detroits' downtown area is. The Eastern Market is one of the most beautiful markets in the country. Bike riding along the river is really nice. The condos downtown are far beyond many in other larger cities. And the yearly festivals by the water front are just plain fun and entertaining. If people would visit it I'm sure that many land developers and investors would buy places downtown because there is a quiet growth going on and one day it will be a world class city.
Of course crime rates could be lower. But many cities have thrived because people invested in cities on waterfronts. Once more people invest in it the increase in property taxes causes better police protection. Right now, Detroit has a special program for police to buy in areas downtown and I don't think the city is doing this for nothing. Don't say I didn't tell you to invest while the prices are good.
