The Wheelhouse Detroit

downtown-detroit on the River Walk. It has been a great addition to the Detroit River walk and to downtown Detroit in general. They offer people bike repair and bike rentals. Wheelhouse Detroit was such a great idea because not everyone (especially tourists) want to see the city by only car. You can see a lot more by bike and you have more freedom as well (although maybe tiring)

Tourists also may not have the ability to bring their own bikes so renting one for a certain amount of time is a great idea. I personally do not have a bike, although I do plan on buying one because of the gas prices, so I decided to give Wheelhouse a try and I wasn't disappointed.

My Experience

I needed to take some pictures downtown for this website so I decided to take the two hours for 15 dollars as I thought I wouldn't need anymore time than that to take pictures. I usually walk around, but I felt like I could cover more ground on a bike.

After I decided on the package I wanted, all I had to do was give my I.D. as a deposit and sign a form with the standard rules and regulations. It took no more than a minute. After that, I paid and chose the type of bike I wanted.

They have about ten types of bikes to chose from including even tandem bikes. I chose the hybrid smoke which is perfect for urban riding. You can also request a lock just in case you want to make some stops around the places you're going to such as restaurants.

So I was off and riding, and the bike rode great and I was able to take the pictures I needed and I got in just before a thunderstorm hit. Fortunately it was only ten minutes before my time was up.

Besides the bike rentals, they have accessories, and service repair for any bikes you may have. They also hold tours on Wednesdays and they go to various places around Detroit. This is a good way to meet some new people and just enjoy riding with other people. So if you're looking for another way to get around Detroit for a pretty good price, definitely give Wheelhouse Detroit a try.
